Based on past evidence, the Labour Party was much more prone to that  
than other parties.  Labour 1997-2007 was terrified of appearing  
``soft on crime'' so rolled over whenever told that opposing madcap  
scheme X would be, indeed, ``soft on crime''.  The Tories don't have  
that problem, so refusing to go along with expensive, ill-proven  
schemes isn't as electorally toxic for them.
