Perhaps monitor from a distance the reading of a passport when it is 
presented to a dedicated reader, if the reader is not screened, I think.

But then there are several levels of security in the panoply of passport 
specs, and one of the problems delaying the move to chip driving 
licences (whioch use basically the same spec) has been failure to agree 
across Europe on the level of security required.
