Connecting for Health has finally purchased encryption for the NHS -
SafeBoot

/encryptiontool
No mention of making it available to other departments.. ;-<
I wondered what the experts thought of the product - and what
differences in ways of working it will entail?
Also, it looks as though the SSEPR (Single Shared Electronic Patient
Record - where each patient has an individual record used by and
contributed to by all those involved in the care of that patient) which
is the model of the Detailed Care Record being introduced by CSC in the
North, Midlands and East of England in the form first of TPP SystmOne
which is due to be incorporated into Lorenzo and rolled out in 2010 (no,
I don't believe it either!) might cause problems with implementation of
encryption.
The DOH would appear, without consultation or even consideration, to
have managed to remove any patient or professional safeguards for both
confidentiality and data quality, and the contractual arrangements would
appear to mandate this.
Any views?

PS I have no information on how BT and Fujitsu are planning to develop
their Detailed Care Record - but it does look as though, in the future,
there will be not only hard to cross borders between England and the
rest of the UK, but also between NME and the rest of England.
R.I.P. NHS.
