I agree with you, but I'm not convinced their predecessors (the ones 
who claimed railway privatisation would be wonderful) were any better.

There is now a lack of "real world" experience amongst the 
"professional" politicians. Their parties seem to be encouraging even 
more of this "professionalism", perhaps because that gets them 
unthinking lobby fodder who would vote for the murder of their granny 
if they thought that would get them a post, bung or whatever.

I much preferred the sort of "real world" experience of a minister in 
the Tory's last innings. He said something like, "You have not lived if 
you have not gone to bed on a Wednesday night wondering how to pay the 
wages on Thursday."
