Having followed that link, I eventually encountered

that the system works either by BT/whoever inserting extra javascript into  
web pages before passoing them on to you, or else BT/whoever persuades you  
to download and install some magical piece of "anti-phishing" software  
which, as a side effect, communicates with Phorm during your web sessions  
so as to enable them to send you suitably targetted ads.
