"Diplomats have made a humiliating apology to six Pakistani men close
to President Pervez Musharraf's ruling elite after they were wrongly
arrested at Gatwick on suspicion of terrorist activity, interrogated
and held for 21 hours."
My, my, my. All these people in white hats making us safe.
Of course Mr Musharraf's bunch are not people I would write home about.
However, they are people the UK government is keen to embrace as part
of their "war on terror", though we are not allowed to call it that at
the moment. Presumably any Johnny Foreigner who is not white is fair
game for the white hatted bunch.
I note that, "The government promised to erase the arrested men's
fingerprint and DNA testing from police databases". It is interesting
to compare this treatement with that of other people in England whose
details are taken. With other people the police claim that the innocent
have nothing to fear (though when the police were offered the
"opportunity" to all be put on this database some years ago they
refused) and they almost never remove such details. One rule for those
with the right connectiosn and one for us plebs.
