What these images are actually called is a matter of political
correctness...

... until fairly recently the IWF went out of its way to correct people
who said "child pornography" (or the rather trivialising "kiddie porn")
saying that the correct phrase was "child abuse images". Nowadays they
correct you to "child sexual abuse images".

Interestingly, most of the international documents (from other INHOPE
members) have yet to catch up with the latest twist in nomenclature.

When writing formally I try hard to follow the "child sexual abuse
image" mantra, since if nothing else it's rather more precise and allows
those who are not interested in subtle distinctions to follow along with
the main thrust of what one is trying to explain.

Of course, the present case didn't really hinge on "abuse". I seriously
doubt that in the jurisdiction where the photograph was snapped in 1976
anything illegal actually occurred... hence the use of the alternative
way of describing this picture which is not "an image of a crime scene"
but is (many argue, many don't) an "indecent" image which, therefore,
given the apparent age of the subject is illegal to possess within the
United Kingdom.

I still see no news of raids on HMV ... either CEOP are not very "joined
up" about the ongoing distribution of this image, or the CPS haven't yet
stopped laughing when they suggested taking some action...
