BBC 'vague' reporting again!

The naivety never ceases to amaze me - though I'm never sure whether it's
theirs or mine. Reminds me of a conference a while back. One speaker was a
senior office from the West Midlands. He described a project they had - to
develop a police security scanner on a stick. The idea was that the public
would invite their friendly neighbourhood crime prevention officer into
their homes to insert the stick and scan their home computer.

I suggested that given the reputation of the police, might it not be
better to promote this service via an independent third party. Some chap
two rows behind me leapt to his feet (figuratively) and tore me off a
strip (actually) for suggesting that the police had anything but an
immaculate reputation. He for one would be delighted to invite the police
to check his own home computer.

I later learned he was with SOCA.
