May I point out another problem: the innocent carholder.

A Saturday where my wife went out for a meal nearly ended up in tragedy. We
went to an expensive restaurant; I paid with my maginificent CHIP & PIN; and
it was refused - outright, and they nearly called the police.

My wife paid - hers wasn't affected.

The interesting thing is that the Banks went into defence mode, and promptly
pulled all the cards. They claim that 'they tried to contact everybody', but
all my phones have answerphones: no-one tried to contact me. So the banks
are happy to leave their cardholders walking the streets using their cards -
when they have been pulled - and leave their customers in the lurch.

I think we all can see the ramifications of this.
