The Egg Marketing Board never had all the powers under RIP that some
people imagined they did...
... but now they are to lose their stake-out powers!
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2006/draft/20064646.htm
will those little lions ever be safe again ?

More relevantly for this list is
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2006/draft/20064647.htm
there's two new "reasons" for accessing Comms Data being added to s22(2)
(a) to assist investigations into alleged miscarriages of justice;
(b) for the purpose of:
(i) assisting in identifying any person who has died otherwise
than as a result of crime or who is unable to identify himself
because of a physical or mental condition, other than one
resulting from crime, or
(ii) obtaining information about the next of kin or other
connected persons of such a person or about the reason for his
death or condition.
the (b) reason appears in the consultation on the Part I Chapter II Code
of Practice... but the Home Office don't seem to be waiting to see if
everyone thinks it is a good idea before going ahead with this wording!
In case you missed it:

Also, the list of people who will have powers to issue s22 notices is
being amended by SI4647 to reflect reorganisations and changes of name
(of organisation and of job titles).
There's a few extras as well, the Gangmasters Licensing Authority, the
Pensions Regulator and the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
There are _no_ removals in this part of the Act (the Egg Marketing Board
never did have access to your email records) -- although the Home Office
have commented that some of the people on the existing list never seem
to use their powers... Perhaps they've been busier lately?
Simon will doubtless clarify if I've misunderstood.
BTW (not that the Home Office have anything to hide) but in their
helpful list of RIP SI's [easily located under the 'Beware of the
Leopard' sign] the link from the almost correctly named
http://security.homeoffice.gov.uk/surveillance/staturory-
instruments/
webpage to "The Regulation of Investigatory Powers (Communications Data)
Order 2003" is actually a link to the relevant, but incorrect
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2003/20033175.htm
rather than
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2003/20033172.htm
:-( still, at least it's not broken!
