Anyone know more about this BT "uk identity verification" scheme?

And it's a crazy requirement anyway. As the passport number isn't
printed on the pages, if you had something in there you thought might
worry them (regular trips to Libya or something), you'd just supply a
copy of the photo page of your passport and the rest of someone else's.
You need to be slightly careful as the pattern on the pages of EU
pattern passports changed shortly after their introduction --- mine
(issued 1995) has different printing to my children's (1999) --- and
this needs to be in sync with the front cover and I think some stuff on
the photo page. But I'm sure that (a) your launderer about town would
know this and/or (b) your bank official about town wouldn't.
And there are privacy matters here: next of kin details on the page
opposite in inside front cover, for example. And what about people who
hold two passports, perhaps because they have to visit Israel and
not-Israel, or because they need to travel regularly to countries which
have visa restrictions and therefore they have one to use and one to be
off getting the visa for the next country? My brother I think at one
point had three passports, because of having both of these factors
applying.
