For the former, I was thinking of Friendsreunited as being the key.  But
on reflection, a rather obvious point arises: how does `mother's maiden
name' work in a context where increasingly many people are born of
unmarried parents?  It rapidly degenerates to mother's name, which is
trivial to obtain, and for many people their own surname.  How secure is
that?
