The practice and the theory rarely match, though, whoever you are
searching. (Perhaps this a a maxim to always consider when discussing 
all the RIP/police data acquisition/etc. issues here ...?) 

I passed through Atlanta around this time last year and it was only 
when I was checked into my hotel that I found my Leatherman laying in 
the bottom of my carry-on from the previous time I'd used it. Safe 
from discovery at LGW and ATL's many searches, whether international 
or domestic, departing or arriving. 

I posted it home to myself rather than run the gauntlet a second 
time, albeit unwittingly the first time.
