It's not understanding that matters. Journalists are generally not 
thick, even those working for the tabloids. However, they tend to 
print what fits in with their news agenda.

Computers, especially if connected the the Interweb thingy are nasty 
and evil. A good way to sell newspapers is to go down the road some 
charities have gone down.

Cars are nice friendly things, with poor hard-pressed motorists who 
can be championed. A good way to sell newspapers and get advertising 
from car dealers and manufacturers.
