Here's the start of what I received this morning:

"CERTIFICATE OF DEDUCTION OF TAX

It is certified that interest has been paid and tax deducted on the SELF=20
trade sharetrading account in the name of SCOTT A for the tax year=20
ended 5th April 2002.

If you have any queries with the information provided below, please=20
contact our call centre on 0845 0700 720.

Yours faithfully,
The SELF trade Team

Gross interest before the deduction of tax ... "

This is obviously naughty, even although the amount of interest was=20
trifling in my case (=A39).

I wonder if people with more interest than a predefined amount were sent=20
letters through the post rather than plain text emails?

SelfTrade UK's action seems strange anyway, given that the interest=20
statement could've been accessed via the usual (secure) login ... or=20
does banking law oblige the interest payer to explicitly notify the=20
payee?
