Participants here may like to know about a new list-server and associated 
website - SmartID.

SMARTID is for the exchange of news and discussion about the social and 
organisational issues of the large-scale deployment of smart-card systems.

We want: news of government and other schemes and proposals; informed 
research papers and commentary on the specific problems of deployment, 
management, infrastructures, financing, regulation, auditing, security, 
data-sharing, public acceptance / perception, issues of multi-purpose 
cards. We are happy to carry news of relevant conferences and publications 
but do not wish to see overt advertising.

We discourage: postings solely about the technical mechanisms and standards 
for smartcards; and discussions about the generality of civil rights and 
privacy in the Internet age, for both of which there are existing excellent 
newsgroups and mailing lists which SmartID is designed to complement.

The website http://smartid.lse.ac.uk carries a growing archive of important 
documents and pointers to significant sites.

SmartID is run by an international team based at the London School of 
Economics.
