As a University project more years ago than I can to recall, I found it 
was very difficult to filter out the noise on an LED-to-photocell 
communications link - even when communications was the prime objective.

This was also about the time that TV remote controls were moving from 
Ultrasonics to Infra-red.

I realise that technology has progressed since then, but was unaware 
that the laws of physics had been modified. (How far away from the TV 
does *your* remote control work?)
