I was (re-)issued an NHS card less than 12 months ago, when I moved
house. It strikes me that people move house on a relatively frequent
basis, so most people will have a relatively up-to-date medical card.

My "new" NHS number was entirely numeric, but my "old" NHS number was
alphanumeric. How often does this kind of identifying tag change?
