Do you think TCPA/Palladium platforms will require a continuous Internet connection to do anything? Will Microsoft be providing this connection do you think?
It sounds like the embodiment of the world in John Brunner's Shockwave Rider - one universal network, where the prize for subverting it is the ability to control what anybody else can do.
Beyond economics some people/locations simply don't have the possibility of continuous Internet connection: the international space station; the British Antartic Survey (and other countries equivalents); armed forces when deployed, in flight or on a ship; ... Not to mention that all governments would balk at the idea of a single US corporation having continuous, minute by minute control of their computer systems.
