many ISPs (and indeed third parties) offer similar services for both
viruses and "spam"... though the details will vary considerably
email may be deleted
or it may be quarantined
or it may be sent through accompanied by some sort of warning
people may be told of the event (or not)
the recipient may be told
the sender (or apparent sender)
the ISP's customer service team
a nominated security officer at the customer site
the "telling" may include a copy of the email (or not)
in all circumstances it is possible to arrange that RIP is not infringed
whether by using the provisions on the face of the Act or by using
provisions from the Lawful Business Practice Regulations.
What started this thread was (in effect) the observation that you may
soon have some further hoops to jump through in the form of a Code of
Practice issued by the Information Commissioner.
