But they *are* part of a global `conspiracy'[1] to do precisely that.
Users who are convinced that they don't have rights won't try to
enforce them even if they do exist. Furthermore if users become
convinced that they don't have these rights it will be easy to change
the `unclear' law by `clarifying' it to say that they don't (see EU
Copyright Directive et al).
[1] I say `conspiracy' but that's not really true, because it's not a
secret. It's just spun so that you don't ever hear about it.
