Yesterday we defeated the government in the Lords by 150 votes to 108
on intangible export controls.

This was the latest round in a battle that's been going on for four
years now, ever since Al Gore persuaded Tony Blair that US-style
intangible export controls would be a good thing. Given that the US
controls have largely been dismantled as unworkable, it's hardly in
our interest to do what they were doing back then, but government is
as immune to arguments from national interest as it is to arguments
about freedom.
So you can still keep that crypto code on your web page - for now.
Don't forget that it was FIPR wot won it. And don't doubt that the
empire will be back sometime
