Iris pattern recognition

wrt a thread some time back this may be of interest.

National Geographic Magazine recently went in search of an Afghanistan
girl, the picture of whom was taken some 17 years ago and lost from
knowledge since. (It's the picture of the girl with a red blanket over
her head much published because of her haunting eyes).  Having found and
photographed her again recently, positive proof that it is the same
woman seems to have been confirmed only through iris pattern recognition
despite the ravages of a somewhat harsh existence over the 17 years.
