Further, it is arguably acceptable and, arguably, within my fair use rights
for me to make a cassette copy of my CD to play in the car (for example, I
don't own either the means to play a tape or a car, but that's not the
point  :)

Equally, and more importantly, there are plenty of uses of cassettes that
have absolutely nothing to do with the music industry.  Why should I have
to pay a levy if I want to make a recording of a meeting I have, so I can
later transcribe it, for example.

Personally, I think the best solution is for the recording industry to stop
thinking it has a right to be compensated when the world changes around
them and that, maybe, it's time they realised that ~they~ have to change
with it and stop fucking about trying to maintain the status quo.
