This sounds like a fair summary of my position. Though I don't know
that I'd describe myself as progressive.

Not quite accurate. It (which one(s), sorry?) _might_ be true, in the
same way that my cat _might_ have created the entire universe 25
minutes ago, and my favourite pen _might_ keep dinosaurs from eating
me.
