I think this is why we tend to have a 'representative' democracy and
not a 'true' democracy. The point is that the rights and freedoms of
any minority need to be safeguarded and accounted for. If politicians
were truly accountable to the people however, we would probably have
hanging. In many cases, the US is actually a more accountable
democracy.
