That's easy, political willy waving. Not being able to produce even a rifle
would have been unacceptable to Empresss Maragaret (blessings on her name
and other mantras etc), but goes even further. Why do we not just buy
everything off the shelf from the US or French, or horror of horrors,
Russia. The first I suspect we do more or less already, the second option;
ahhgh remember Hastings, Agincourt, Poitiers, Blenheim, Trafalgar ,Waterloo
:) and the third well just not acceptable if very cheap by comparison with
the first. Mind you, the good thing about the SA80 is if our gallant
comrades manning the pickets in the Fuel Tax rebellion get shot at they
should be OK. On the latter subject did anyone notice how, what was the word
Maggie used to use "resolute" Tony sounded, or echoes of "crisis what
crisis" from Jim C? Funny we spent a year trying to get the best publicity
for anti EC and RIP and got a few late night chat shows, and a farmer parks
a tractor outside a refinery and starts the nearest thing to a poll tax
revolt that HMG has seen in a while. Perhaps we should have had a direct
fiscal angle on peoples pockets. Ho hum.
Enough off topic rambling.
