Is this not like the M16 which had all manner of problems when first used in
anger in Vietnam, but with modifications became universally loved by the grunts.
I have never fired one (an SA80) but would have thought the weight savinings
on the weapon and ammo were worth something and it's lack of bulk would also
be an advantage. But I am not a soldier and am just making guesses.
