I routinely sort out my mail either from a laptop plus a mobile phone
(using, in fact, IMAP-over-SSL with 3DES) or a Palm Pilot plus a mobile
phone (PaPiMail doesn't support SSL, so I do that en clair). Using IMAP
mail reading is fine. Especially on the Pilot: I can tell PaPi to use
IMAP searching so it only downloads the headers of, for example,
``unread mail in the past two days from users containing STRING'', and
the app itself knows not to bother downloading more than the first 5K
(configurable) of each message. Works fine.
