As a preliminary data point, when I faxed my (labour) MP using the STAND
site, (9pm on a Monday) I received a response from him first post
Wednesday. He said that he would raise the matter with Jack Straw, and 
inform me of the response. I have not heard anything further.

So I would guess that the Home Office may work on geological time. Except 
for consultation periods, of course :)
