For anyone concerned about security issues (of any sort) to seriously
recommend the use of M$ Word is a sacriledge. Word is responsible for
most of the most disasterous viruses out in the wild today, not to
mention most of the viruses of even non disastrous nature. It is an open
invitation to anyone to infect every one of our machines, except for
those of us intelligent and concerned enough to be using WordPerfect.
Fortunately I don't have to worry about accepting a Word document, since
I can open any of them in WP and not execute the virus file. Those of
you still careless enough to be using Word don't have that luxury.

Exactly, which is why they should be produced in straight ascii text.
