What happens if they cannot scan the system at all? My Thinkpad
(incidentally running Linux) has a form of hard disk protection that is
supposedly embedded into the disk firmware. According to various
sources, the only way of recovering data from the disk if the password
is forgotten, is to take the platters out.
Suppose I say to C&E that it is someone else's laptop and I don't know
the boot password. What can they do?
"Excuse me Sir, can you tell me when you packed the data on your laptop?
Are you carring any data given to you by anyone else? ..."

Very true.
