Terrorists using Email and Encryption

Reading the reports on CNN of the US bombings in Afghanistan and Sudan, the
US government apparently stated that their main means of communication was
Email with sofisticated encryption. Nevertheless, the amount of information
the USG seems to have of the terrorist groups, their meetings, etc.. is
outstanding. Hmm...
