FYI I have merged the recent subdirmk 0.3 release into secnet master,
and rebased this series onto that.  The result is here:

in
  refs/heads/wip.pubkeys.v2
and the commit range is
  ea31544cc33afdb355ad524e14c3703b2fe85ce0
to

I don't think there are any significant differences.  There are the
necessary build system changes and conflict resolutions.
