Greetings Debian-UK,

My employer, Codethink[1] Ltd, is a software consultancy company based in
Manchester. We are pretty much always interested in hiring engineers[2] who are
interested in working on a variety of problems. While I'd love to say that we
work purely with free and open source software, sadly we have to pay the bills
and that means our clients are usually dealing in proprietary software.

That said, as a company, we aim to push F/LOSS both in terms of using it where
possible and in terms of philosophy, processes, and approaches. One of our
company goals is to improve the state of software engineering in all of our
clients, so we spend time educating and helping teams in our clients to develop
the skills they need to do better in the future.

We, as you'd expect, offer flexible working arrangements. Though we have a very
nice office in Manchester city centre, there isn't an expectation that you would
be in the office every day. We do prefer that our engineers are able to get
into the office if needed though, particularly as our clients often give us
hardware rigs which need physical attendance to make work, so within a project
at least one person may need to remote-hands from time to time.

We set the standard in a number of places - recently we were the first company
ever (as far as we are aware) to have an officially certified process for
building reproducible free-software toolchains for safety applications.

We are members of ELISA (Embedded Linux in Safety Applications) a working group
of the Linux Foundation which is working on the complexities of using Linux in
safety critical applications. We are also members of the OpenSSF (Open Source
Security Foundation) and we are working on OpenChain compliance in order to
better support our clients in their own F/LOSS journeys.

If you are interested in being part of a software consultancy which works in
these areas, if you enjoy helping solve potentially uncomfortable problems
across a range of industry areas, or if you enjoy working to help software
engineers to be better, at software engineering, but particularly with F/LOSS
solutions, then you might enjoy working at Codethink.

I encourage any of you thinking of a move in career, particularly if you're
already within reasonable commuting distance of Manchester city centre, to
consider Codethink.

D.
