From steve at einval.com Thu Sep 10 21:07:16 2009 From: steve at einval.com (Steve McIntyre) Date: Thu, 10 Sep 2009 21:07:16 +0100 Subject: [Debian-uk] Belated BBQ thanks Message-ID: <20090910200716.GA13741@einval.com> Hi folks, Thanks to all the people who turned up the weekend before last and helped to make it great fun for us all! And also thanks to a great bunch of people for sponsoring some of the food and drink: * Rob McQueen from Collabora for providing 3 barrels of beer from Milton Brewery; * Martin Brooks from AntibodyMX for bringing along a big stack of food for us; * Andy Simpkins for chipping in for a *big* lump of dead cow to go on the BBQ on the Saturday; * Dan Alderman for donating to the food funds even despite being unable to come along himself. Cheers, guys! All in all, there was a small surplus (GBP 15) from the BBQ after we covered the shopping from the donations and what people paid in, so (as per normal) I'm putting that into Debian UK. I hope to see even more of you next year! -- Steve McIntyre, Cambridge, UK. steve at einval.com Support the Campaign for Audiovisual Free Expression: http://www.eff.org/cafe/ -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... So far the number of sigs has risen from 13.8% before the BBQ to 24.1% after it. If anyone else still has to sign/upload sigs then please do it asap, I'll probably do a final run of the matrix script later this week. Its been upgraded and reinstalled (a couple of weeks ago actually) and been building kernels and compilers for me to investigate realtek multicast issues. For those who like pictures http://www.kyllikki.org/wiring_cab-small.jpg shows it in my wiring cabinet, the silver one is the new one the other is a buildd (yeah its called cats, no it isn't a cats any more ;-) New system has displaced an old set of netwinders and is proving much more reliable. -- Regards Vincent -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Doubtless I shall become enlightened. In the process of total retirement from my active professional life, I now find I have a few hundred disks/CDs/carefully acquired bits of information and software documentation etc. etc. which I am never going to use again, (famous last words!) to dispose of. Much of it concerns the early years of Linux; and from 1996, Debian in particular. (I *think* there's a complete set of Debian disks in there.) And what I do with the 8" disks from 1978 (which I can no longer read), and all the DOS-related stuff, I simply don't know. But this post concerns the Debian stuff only. Rather than just dump the whole lot in the skip (as I was obliged to do with a comprehensive collection of personal computing magazines from first issues onwards fifteen years ago), I would rather donate the useful stuff (which may no longer be replaceable -- I simply don't know) in the hands of someone or some organization who can put it to good use in recording the history and development of the distribution. Does anyone know of an (un)official Debian historian/archivist who would welcome this carefully-compiled, but now-unwanted, collection? Please reply either on or off-list. -- Martin Wheeler - G5FM +44 1458 83-1103 - Glastonbury - BA6 9PH - England mwheeler at startext.co.uk http://martinwheeler.net/ http://avalonit.net/ GPG pub key : 01269BEB 6CAD BFFB DB11 653E B1B7 C62B AC93 0ED8 0126 9BEB - Share your knowledge. Simon McVittie suggested I post to this list. My husband, Leonard Richardson, is visiting Cambridge with me to see if we'd like to move here. He wrote robotfindskitten & Beautiful Soup, edited Segfault.org, and wrote most of Ruby Cookbook & RESTFul Web Services. So I'd like to introduce him to friendly like minds here, and Simon suggested a small debian-uk get-together. Perhaps Monday or Tuesday night, 21 or 22 September, some of us could do a pub night or dinner together, here in Cambridge? If this weekend is better, we might be able to do that.
