You ran "apt-get update"? You should be using "aptitude" these days (but that won't fix it). Debian UK is normally "non technical", but I dare say if you put the sources.list and the output of "apt-get update" on a website and post a link someone will tell you what is wrong. Although you might get a quicker response in the Debian IRC channel. FWIW ftp.uk.debian.org is working fine from here. The relevant sources.list line is very straight forward: deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ lenny main Is there any chance you've got some sort of "clever" caching proxy between you and the world? I'd check the contents of /etc/apt/apt.conf and /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/* for anything that might make apt behave differently to your browser. Then there's the $http_proxy environment variable, and finally the proxy settings of the browser. Some of you will already know about the Entropy Key and that pricing went up on the website[1] today for retail packs to be available early September. As a special thank-you to Debian (Simtec use Debian a lot, and also a bunch of people helped us at the Debcamp this year) I have managed to wrangle a rate for Entropy Keys at the BBQ which is even better than the five-off pricing which the retail packs will be available in. If anyone is going to the BBQ and definitely wants an Entropy Key, please email ekey at sitmec.co.uk and tell us how many you want us to bring along for you. Each packaged Entropy Key will be 35UKP incl. VAT. I had previously suggested they'd be around 40UKP so I suggest if you were primed for that, you consider donating the other fiver to the beer fund at the weekend. Proper VAT invoices will be available for those who need them. These will not be cut-down packs in any way -- they're just available for early adopters. I look forward to seeing you all at the BBQ. I'm sure if it's > not enabled by default a polite word could be had with the admins.. The audio puzzle was enabled, but there's two problems with that: 1. a higher proportion of the population has impaired hearing (9 million in England, NHS) than some impaired vision (2 million in the UK, RNIB) and there's a non-zero overlap; 2. ISTR that able-bodied humans have a 40% failure rate at the recaptcha audio test, but I can't find the link for that just now. and in any case, offering the audio puzzle doesn't excuse the "We need to make sure you're a human" insulting text. Essentially, reCaptcha is still the design flaw of using unrelated disability testing instead of testing for spamming inclination of a not-yet-registered user, or whether a registered user is trying to spam. It's the internet equivalent of putting up a "no cripples" sign because you think they're con artists. The site owner has emailed to say they'll test an alternative. We'll see.
