I find the opposite is true - just participating via IRC means that
things at home interfere with actually getting things fixed and the
wasted time is then interspersed throughout the day(s) and actually
accounts for more time overall. Nobody is accountable over IRC, you can
wander away at any moment - it's easier to keep the concentration when
others are in the same room.
I guess it might be because I've got so many different things to get
done and although it is entirely self-defeating, working on stuff that
needs to be fixed *after* Lenny is released is more enticing than
actually fixing Lenny so that it can be released. I need the feedback
from others to keep my attention on the bug fixes.
So whilst I'll still be around on IRC trying to fix what I can anyway,
I thought that getting people together would be more effective at this
stage. Something about the remaining bugs just seems to warrant a
collective approach.
