Sunday mornings always seems to be hard to find flights to/from Germany.

At a guess, Cologne->Brussels->London on Saturday night,
http://www.seat61.com/Germany.htm#Cologne
stop over in/near London,
http://www.superbreak.com/discounted-hotels/offers-category-LO.htm
or similar, then
London->Manchester on Sunday morning. http://www.traintimes.org.uk
(pick Chiltern or G.Western as retailer to avoid a booking fee and
tell it you'll collect from a FastTicket printer at the London station).

Hope that helps,
