It's running out of space on the /org partition, so I've bought 4 additional 500GB S-ATA drives, and another controller, and will be setting that up as a RAID1 to add 1TB of extra storage. Steve McI will probably be pleased to know that I have finally bought it a decent case (nice rackmount with hot-swap bays for all the drives) to replace the dodgy midi-tower-on-its-side-with-gaffer-tape-enhancements case that has been serving up to this point ;-) Cheers, Phil. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFHNwfCYgOKS92bmRARAmYnAJ9tXWpsVnE6sCJuY/7mLbSHgzyXYQCgqJFk MzLMKqe5SiaaxT2QH2Zt7fY= =goFN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From phil at hands.com Tue Nov 13 12:13:19 2007 From: phil at hands.com (Philip Hands) Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2007 12:13:19 +0000 Subject: [Debian-uk] Re: free.hands.com (www.uk.debian.org) maintenance from 21:00 GMT 12 Nov 2007 In-Reply-To: <47384E35.6030803@hands.com> References: <473707C4.2000301@hands.com> <47384E35.6030803@hands.com> Message-ID: <473994DF.4060904@hands.com> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Philip Hands wrote: > Philip Hands wrote: >> Hi, > >> The UK Debian mirror is liable to be down for an hour or two (hopefully not >> more) from around 11:00 GMT tomorrow. > > Well, it seems that they've double-booked the system building room for > interviews, so I should be able to get in there this evening some time instead. I finally got in there at about midnight, and after one thing or another it then took till about 06:00 before I left -- "free" is now back up and running, but I may have to reboot it once more today in order to install a new kernel to get the best out of the new 3ware controller, and at some point the /org filesystem will get remounted once I copy the data over to the new disks, so if you notice any outages it's liable to be either one of those causes or the fact that at some point over the coming days the ISP plans to re-rack the server, as the new case doesn't fit well in the old slot, so they've put it in a temporary location just to get it back on-line this morning. Re-racking is liable to take anything up to an hour when it happens (hopefully less though) Cheers, Phil. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFHOZTcYgOKS92bmRARArxiAJ48QBqh4rbrDKz4nHuJflsi1P6LyQCfWK1L cJrXr1zEDB01W1HSf0k5LU4= =z+t8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From steve at einval.com Thu Nov 29 21:48:22 2007 From: steve at einval.com (Steve McIntyre) Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2007 21:48:22 +0000 Subject: [Debian-uk] Cambridge & East Anglia Pub Meeting, 4th Dec Message-ID: <20071129214822.GA5037@einval.com> In case some local people might be interested... ----- Forwarded message from Tony Ibbs ----- From: Tony Ibbs Date: Mon, 26 Nov 2007 22:13:11 +0000 To: Users Python UK Cc: UK the PyCon conference Mailing list for , Cambridge Users Group and East Anglian Python Subject: Cambridge & East Anglia Pub Meeting, 4th Dec The second meeting of the Cambridge & East Anglia Python group will be at 8pm on Tuesday 4th December, at the Carlton Arms (http:// www.thecarltonarms.co.uk/) This time we've got an agenda: * when future pub meetings will be held * whether we want to join O'Reilly's discount scheme * some discussion about how we might organise talks (particularly where) Tony Ibbs / Tibs -- tibs@tibsnjoan.co.uk http://www.pyconuk.org/community/Cambridge_and_East_of_England http://groups.google.com/group/campug ----- End forwarded message ----- -- Steve McIntyre, Cambridge, UK. steve@einval.com We don't need no education.
