Trouble is that I am giving a talk and wrapping up my apartment on that weekend to return to Zurich after 5 weeks of Ireland. Thus, I cannot take responsibility. Is there someone here who would like to man a Debian booth during the conference? Eddie Please be aware that we do not want any publicity for this project for the next few weeks. This is to let you know about the inaugural meeting of the Trusted Computing Project and if it is of interest to invite you to attend. Date: Wednesday 31st Jan 2007 Time: 18:30 to 20:30 Venue: 724 Fulham Road, LONDON SW6 5SF Map: http://www.bournewalbrook.com/bwhouselocmap/ So we have an idea of the numbers if you will be attending would you send an email to eddie@netproject.com. Background The Trusted Computing Project has been initiated by a group of consultants who have been working with Free / Open Source Software and who recognise the need for Linux to be successful on the desktop. The project web site is at: http://www.trustedcomputing.org.uk/ The meeting has several purposes : to outline the objectives of the project and the marketing strategy; to detail the technical approach that is being adopted; to relate the project to other Free / Open Source desktop projects including the Debian / Ubuntu desktop and if possible the work being done by Google; to get input from those interested in contributing to the project. The meeting will finish by 20:30 after which discussions will continue at the Eight Bells, Putney Bridge. http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/10/109/Eight_Bells/Putney_Bridge Some background. netproject developed a Secure Open Desktop Architecture for the UK Police IT Organisation to provide secure messaging over the Internet. This architecture was used as the basis for the Open Source Migration Guidelines that were developed by netproject for the European Commission. See: http://europa.eu.int/idabc/en/document/2623 There is a massive interest in the issues of Trusted Computing. netproject ran a conference on Trusted Computing for the DTI. With no money for marketing the conference was promoted by word of mouth / chain email. The result was that the conference was oversubscribed. The objective of this project is to bypass the traditional IT managers who rely on 'not being sacked for buying the market leader' and to deal directly with those who are aware that the existing mainstream approach to desktop computing is flawed. --=20 Eddie Bleasdale netproject Ltd 124 Middleton Road Morden Surrey SM4 6RW Mobile: +44 (0)7989 012 847 ----- End forwarded message ----- --ZGiS0Q5IWpPtfppv Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.5 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFFrKVDYgOKS92bmRARAptCAJ48bt4cDmP2rQ71p9xX1qHRnwB/ZgCdG3F5 idi6ZiXoS3l3iT03gd/C/Eo= =fqsX -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --ZGiS0Q5IWpPtfppv-- From steve at einval.com Fri Jan 19 13:43:33 2007 From: steve at einval.com (Steve McIntyre) Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2007 13:43:33 +0000 Subject: [Debian-uk] Etch T-shirts? Message-ID: <20070119134333.GC13812@einval.com> I'd like to get a new design done, ready for the Etch release - some of us have discussed this before. As you're all aware, I have no artistic talent myself, so I'm pimping for some help again. :-) The idea is (basically) to have the Debian swirl in etch-a-sketch style, so I' thinking of: * mid-grey T * red border with white knobs and "Debian GNU/Linux" in yellow/gold script along the top. Maybe have the knobs and the text just be a hole to the grey underneath...? * black stylised swirl in the middle of the "screen" How does that sound? I know I'd buy one, but I'm a Geek T-shirt whore... :-) My only problem with that is the number of colours involved, which will make it expensive to produce - red, white, gold and black. We could possibly go for a white T. Me neither, but in the time honoured free software tradition, I release; http://simonwaters.technocool.net/test/Etch-A-Sketch.svg =2E... and hope someone who actually knows what they are doing with graphics tools can improve it. Hey it works with software, it should work with t-shirt designs. It is an SVG file - so Inkscape is your first tool of choice, but it views okay in Iceweasel now I made it smaller than the canvas it is on. You might need some of the bizarre fonts I have installed ("apt-get" is your friend). All the components are vector graphics, including the traced version of the free use Debian swirl logo. Any resemblance to products of the Ohio Arts Company, or Pixar Animation Studios, is because you guys are so cool! --------------enig92DEA6F65DCD52C457588F00 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Encryption...is a powerful defensive weapon for free people.
