[a pre-emptive apology for the length of this message]
As an introduction for people who havn't been paying attention, or
people who read their e-mails backwards or something, we're planning a
keysigning/barbecue/pissup event on Saturday August 16th at Steve
McIntyre's house in Cambridge, on the pretext that we're celebrating the
10th Birthday of the Debian Project.
I'm (perhaps foolishly) attempting to be a little more organised than
usual, and determine who is coming and roughly where they might be
staying, because I think we'll get more people than the last two
(entirely pretext-free) occasions. This information, and some vague
scheduling and location mumbling, is being collated at the wiki here:
http://the.earth.li/~huggie/cgi-bin/moin/Debian10thBirthday
A few things:
1. As some of you may have seen from the Wiki, I have added a Key ID
column. My general idea is to make the keysigning a little more
efficient by pre-arming people with a matrix of who's signed whose keys,
and a copy of the printed finerprints of everyone in attendance, so that
there is less labouring around with little slips of paper and such like,
and more emphasis on checking the ID and checking the fingerprint. I'll
get the keys from the.earth.li unless you have a special reason for me
not to, in which case you can mail me.
2. As a consequence of this (making sure everyone is listed, and that we
have enough copies), and also to ensure that all possible crash space
locations are listed (we have more requests than offers atm, and I'm
sure there are Cambridge folk whose names are not down on the list
yet), it would be very helpful (tm) if you could list yourself if you
plan to come. Head to the URL above and click "Edit Page" at the bottom,
the format is fairly self-explanatory. The list used to be alphabetical
too...
3. If you're a vegetarian or have any other dietary requirements, it
might be handy to note it on the wiki. Whilst we're likely to go shopping
on the day, it saves us having to either run around asking who's a
vegetarian, or speculatively purchase some random amount of veggie food
which might not get eaten by more carniverous sorts.
4. On the Saturday in previous years we've met up in a pub in the centre
of Cambridge, last time it was the Regal. Seeing as this is big and
well-known, it would probably do for our gathering point before we head
over to Steve's place. Any objections?
5. As an aside, I'm likely to be driving from Cardiff to Cambridge for
this, and I may have a spare seat in the car. If you need a lift and
live on the route (up M50, M5, M40-something south of B'ham and Coventry,
then M11 I think, then east to Cambs) or can get yourself to Cardiff,
get in touch.
Regards,
Rob
