I can borrow a 48x (IIRC) CD writer, and I was considering buying one or
two.

Actually, if people here wanted CDRW drives, I could buy a load of
them. I can get Artec 48x12x48 CDRW drives for 33.75 GBP + VAT, and
will sell them on at cost at the end of the show after we've had a
chance to, er ... "test" them :-)

My only concern with these drives is that they support "JustLink" rather
than "BURNproof" as their under-run protection --- does anyone know if
cdrecord deals with JustLink drives properly?

With 2 or 3 machines, with 3 CDRWs in each, the majority being 48x
drives, we could churn out a decent quantity of CDs at the show, and
react to demand a lot better.

Assuming that 48x means what it says (unlikely, I know --- I'll do some
tests this evening) we should be able to knock out a CD per drive every
two minutes or so, which is about 180 CDs per day per drive (assuming
some poor sod(s) devotes there entire concentration to burning CDs at
all times).

If we had 7 such drives, we should be able to set it up so that they
produced a full set in under two minutes, on demand, which would at
least cut down on the confusion about which CD was poping out of which
drive.

I can also get CD blanks for about 12p each, and PVC sleeves for 1.75p
each (ex VAT). John may be able to do prices near these, which would be
better, since he has a use for CDs & sleeves that are left over.

Is this all worth the effort? It would mean we could just get John to
burn a relevant number of CD1's and a few full sets to start us off, and
then we could probably keep pace with the rest, but it does require
people to be burning CDs, and either scribbling or printing labels all
day, which is going to be a bit of a bore.=20

Cheers, Phil.
