I know this was a very long time ago, for which apologies. But #677420/#724959
was mentioned in the discussion of #1008910 so I had a look.

I am unable to reproduce this behaviour and quoted names are parsed correctly.

I am wondering if it was a bug in the particular shell you (were?) using. I
notice the submitter of #677420 was using bash as /bin/sh.
