Trivial patch attached for below suggestion for your convenience.

(Making it convenient to test will have to be implemented in a higher
level tool that enables the provided example.)

PS. inittab uses undocumented legacy syntax for getty in
other/preexisting places in inittab and should be updated to use
documented syntax (because who knows when the undocumented syntax stops
working). Someone<tm> should file this as a separate issue.....
