Both the delayed emails were finally sent within a fairly short space of
time today. When I did some admin on the server, I noticed it was
running new software, so perhaps the upgrade caused some problems. Let's
see if they seem to have been resolved.

Some time on Wednesday Mailman stopped working. Messages seem to have been
queued up rather than discarded. I have restarted it and I think they have
all been delivered now.
The original cause seems to have been the system running out of fd table
slots due to the boot scripts not applying /etc/sysctl.conf. I don't know
what caused the latter problem but will look into next time I'm rebooting
chiark for some other reason. Mailman failed to cope and wedged itself.
If it seems to go wrong again please let me know.
